A minimalist interior is calm, stylish and timeless. But how do you make sure that this serene foundation doesn’t feel cold? With the right materials, shapes and colours, you can easily create a warmer atmosphere without losing the minimalist character. These five tips will help you give your interior that little bit extra.
1. Choose warm wood tones
Wood and minimalism are a perfect match. This natural material instantly adds warmth to your home and gives a calm interior more character. Dark, rich wood tones in particular create extra depth and form a beautiful contrast with light walls and neutral colours.
For example, choose one larger piece of wooden furniture and let it form the natural foundation of the room. The Bask armchair beautifully combines wood and comfort, while the Build wall cabinet adds warmth and character to the overall look.
2. Play with volume
Minimalist doesn’t mean everything has to be small and subtle. One larger item can make a calm interior much more interesting. Think of an oversized armchair, a statement lamp or an accessory with plenty of volume. By choosing one larger statement piece, you can create atmosphere without adding lots of smaller items.
The Loft XL or XXL lamp is a great example. Its generous size immediately draws the eye and gives the room more character. At the same time, the fabric finish and soft, warm colour tones add extra warmth. Want to introduce a little more colour? The Toval plant stand in honey yellow or dark purple adds a playful accent while allowing the rest of the interior to remain calm and understated.

3. Add soft fabrics and textures
An interior with lots of sleek, smooth surfaces can quickly feel a little cold. The solution? Texture. Soft and coarser materials create contrast and instantly add more warmth to the living room.
A rug is an easy way to create this effect. The Ruglio and Weavly rugs not only add texture but also help bring separate pieces of furniture together. Place a generously sized rug partially underneath the sofa and armchair to visually connect the seating area.
4. Break up straight lines
Clean lines are an essential part of a minimalist interior, but too many straight shapes can make the overall look feel a little harsh. Balance them with round and organic shapes. This keeps the calm aesthetic intact while making the space feel warmer and more inviting.
For example, introduce organic shapes with a mirror. Choose the playful shape of the Glivon mirror or Norea mirror. A side table such as Moss also breaks up the straight lines of a sofa, cabinet or wall and brings more movement into the interior.
5. Add one deep colour
Minimalism certainly doesn’t have to be limited to beige, white and grey. A deep colour such as burgundy can work surprisingly well in a minimalist interior. The key is balance: choose one bold colour and repeat it subtly in a few places.
For example, turn the Merel sideboard into a warm focal point in the living or dining room. Combine its deep shade with calm materials and colours around it, allowing the piece to take centre stage. You can then subtly repeat the colour in the Show It wall cabinet by vtwonen or in a smaller accessory. This creates a cohesive look without taking away from the room’s calm character.
Warm minimalism: calm, but never boring
Making a minimalist interior feel warmer isn’t about adding more, but about making more considered choices. Combine warm materials with soft textures, play with scale and shape, and don’t be afraid to introduce a deep colour. The result is an interior that feels calm, but certainly never boring.
